Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) Development
“At Lindhead, SMSC is woven into every part of school life. Through lessons, clubs and community links, we help children reflect on their beliefs and values, make thoughtful choices, work together with others, and celebrate the richness of culture and diversity.”
At Lindhead School, we are committed to promoting the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all pupils. SMSC runs through everything we do, helping children grow into thoughtful, respectful and responsible citizens.
Spiritual Development
We encourage children to reflect on their own experiences, explore beliefs and values, and develop a sense of awe and wonder.
Examples: science investigations that inspire curiosity, RE lessons exploring world faiths, art and music for self-expression, and opportunities for quiet reflection in assemblies.
Moral Development
Our pupils learn to recognise right from wrong, understand consequences, and consider ethical issues with reasoned views.
Examples: discussing story characters’ choices in English, learning about environmental responsibility in science, and taking part in school eco-council and charity fundraising.
Social Development
We help children use social skills, work cooperatively, and value diverse viewpoints as part of the community.
Examples: teamwork in PE and group projects, buddy systems between older and younger pupils, school council activities, and links with local community groups.
Cultural Development
Pupils learn to appreciate cultural influences, celebrate diversity, and engage with the arts, music, literature and heritage.
Examples: studying a wide range of authors and artists, exploring world music and traditions, trips to museums and theatres, and celebrating events such as Black History Month and local festivals.
At Lindhead, SMSC is not a separate subject — it is woven into our curriculum, extra-curricular activities, and school life every day.
