Promoting Fundamental British Values
At Lindhead, British values are not taught in isolation — they are lived out every day through our curriculum, assemblies, and wider school life, helping our children grow into respectful, responsible and active citizens.
Democracy
Children learn that their opinions matter and are given real opportunities to contribute to school life.
Examples: our Eco-Council and School Council are made up of elected representatives, classes vote on rewards and treats as part of the behaviour policy, we take pupil voice as a matter of course through monitoring activities, and children are regularly consulted through surveys and class votes on books, themes or enrichment activities.
The Rule of Law
We help pupils understand why rules and laws are important, how they keep us safe, and how they are upheld in society.
Examples: each class creates its own charter at the start of the year, pupils learn about fairness and safety through PE and sports, and we welcome visits from community services such as the police and fire brigade.
Individual Liberty
Children are encouraged to make choices, develop independence and take responsibility within a safe and supportive environment.
Examples: pupils choose challenge levels in lessons, select from a wide range of clubs, and learn about rights and responsibilities through PSHE and online safety.
Mutual Respect
Respect is woven into all our behaviour policies and strategies, and is a core value at Lindhead. We promote positive relationships and value each person’s contributions.
Examples: buddy systems between older and younger pupils, respectful collaboration in lessons, celebrating achievements in assemblies, and showing sportsmanship in PE.
Tolerance of Those of Different Faiths and Beliefs
We prepare pupils for life in modern Britain by helping them to understand and respect diversity.
Examples: our RE curriculum explores world faiths and worldviews, a full range of assemblies across the year helps us celebrate many festivals from a variety of faiths, we welcome regular visits from Canon Chris Coates, and children visit places of worship to deepen their understanding.
